FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions

What is a retirement village?

A retirement village is a community designed for independent living, offering security, social opportunities, and access to services that support aging well.

What is the difference between a retirement village and aged care?

Retirement villages provide independent living with optional support services, while aged care facilities offer higher levels of medical and personal care.

Why do people move into a retirement village?

Common reasons include community living, security, low-maintenance homes, and future planning for care needs. We often hear residents say they wish they had made the decision to move in sooner than they did.

Costs and Contracts

What are the costs involved in moving into a retirement village?

Costs typically include:
- Entry payment (ingoing contribution or purchase price)
- Legal fees
- Utility setup costs
- Ongoing service fees

Do I have to pay stamp duty? Leasehold retirement villages like Renaissance are exempt from stamp duty.
Will I own my villa? Renaissance villas are available as a leasehold tenure. The lease term prevails for the life of the resident, or until the resident surrenders the lease to reside elsewhere.
Can I bequeath my leasehold tenure to a family member? No, the lease is not transferable. Only those whose names appear on the lease are able to reside full-time in the villa. The residual payout value at exit is the property of the resident.

Are pets allowed? We understand the comfort and companionship a pet can provide. Small pets are welcome in our village, subject to meeting our criteria. There are leisurely walking paths in and around the village which our residents enjoy with their pets.
